CLIENT PRESENTATION

AZURE ON AIRLIE.

Azure on Airlie brings a retiring client’s dream to life, a private coastal retreat shaped by his vision and the charm of the Whitsundays, with my focus on the residence. The palette of light oak and dusty blue reflects the meeting of sand and sea, creating a timeless home that restores calm and offers rest after a lifetime of hard work. Open, breezy spaces draw in natural light and frame the ocean views, while seamless indoor and outdoor flow creates the ideal setting for his family of four to reconnect and unwind. Every detail is considered for ease, comfort, and quiet luxury, translating the surrounding landscape into a gentle, enduring design language. This project deepened my interest in how design can express both place and personality while remaining grounded in real constraints and human needs.

Environmental and Client Considerations:
Located in the sub-tropical Whitsundays, the residence is shaped by both the climate and the client’s needs for comfort in retirement. The site faces a tropical environment of hot, humid summers and warm, dry winters, demanding finishes that endure salt-laden air, heavy rain, and coastal exposure. The palette and material selections were carefully considered to withstand these conditions, ensuring a lasting, low-maintenance home that remains light and inviting.

Passive ventilation through timber louvers was integrated throughout the design, allowing natural airflow and reducing reliance on mechanical cooling. The north-facing position captures ocean views while deep eaves and shaded outdoor spaces protect against the tropical sun and heavy rainfall.

For the client, ease and openness were central. The home’s layout allows for comfortable movement and visual connection across spaces, blending resilience with calm simplicity. The result is a retirement retreat that feels effortless to live in

Crafted for comfort, grounded in the coast.
